Sept. 8, 2016: Veronika Gasparyan/Nick Cincotta and Z2 Music/East Coast Runaways/From Grief to Gratitude

East Coast Runaways playing live
We're opening the show with Author Veronika Gasparyan's book Mother at Seven, the true story of a little girl's tragic childhood, and how she endured and overcame unspeakable abuse at the hands of her sadistic family. Many have spoken about how this book spoke to them, how once they started it, they couldn't put it down.

We welcome back music promoter Kierra Walsh and hip-hop artist Nick Cincotta, plus newcomers to the show, Z2 Music. They've got a show on Sept. 24, at the Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub. Nick has new music and Z2 has a brand new music video.

It's been quite awhile since the band East Coast Runaways were last on the show, and we're so glad to have them back! They play a killer live set, and we talk about their upcoming shows and what they've been up to the past few years.

BONUS: Our Blackout Bootleg series from the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival concludes with Debbie Savigliano, whose book, "From Grief to Gratitude," was adapted into a documentary about how she turned her grief over the sudden death of her niece into a mission that has helped many, many others.

Aug. 18, 2016: Scott Goudsward/Massachusetts Independent Film Festival/R. Patrick Gates/Jennifer Vaughn

Dede Crimmins, Chris Hallock, and Max
Max flies solo tonight, but he's got plenty of guests to keep him company. First up is author Scott T. Goudsward who will be at the upcoming Merrimack Valley Halloween Book Festival. He's got some great new thrillers out, including "Fountain of the Dead," a great zombie story set here in Boston!

The Massachusetts Independent Film Festival returns on Aug. 26, and organizers Dede Crimmins and Chris Hallock talk about the filmmakers, who they're most eager to see, and the endless work that goes into putting it together. There are some great films on deck, including the newest work by Italian shock maestro Luigi Cozzi.

It's a music/book combo to end the show with R. Patrick Gates as he shares his latest release, "Savage," the story of what happens when someone loses what makes their life special and strides the line between justice and vengeance. This one has a deeply personal connection, and Patrick also talks about "The Prison," a fictional story based on some chilling real-life occurrences.

BLACKOUT BOOTLEG: Guest co-host Gina House returns as Max heads north to New Hampshire for an interview with journalist and author Jennifer Vaughn for her book, "Throw Away Girls." When dead girls begin to pile up at seedy nightclubs that cater to whimsical, fetish-seeking strangers, reporter Jaycee Wilder suspects a serial killer is at work. But what happens when she begins tracking the clues?

Sept. 3, 2015: Rachel McIntosh/Adam Tavel/Mikel Wisler/MIFF: Postpartum

Matt and filmmaker Mikel Wisler talk
about his new movie, "Unidentified"
Rachael L. McIntosh joins us to talk about "Little Yellow Stickies," the first in her three-book series, "Security Through Absurdity," which follows Jocelyn McLaren, who unwittingly and unknowingly participates in crimes after going to work for a U.S. defense contractor.
These books touch on a number of issues in the news as of late, and Rachel looks at what led her to writing the book and readers' reactions.

Mikel Wisler is a filmmaker whose new book, "Unidentified," is now being produced as his first feature film. The book is about alien abductions and the pursuit of the truth to save two children. Wisler looks at the process of going from book to film, the casting of the lead character, and his own thoughts on whether we're alone in the universe.

Poet Adam Tavel is next, and with dozens of his poems in a number of publications, we could likely devote the rest of the show to him. He talks about his new book, "Plash and Levitation," upcoming readings in Maryland and Alaska, and his secret to a great poetry presentation.

BONUS: Our Blackout Bootleg sessions continue, this time at the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival. We talk to writer/director Izzy Lee and actress Diana Porter, for the short thriller film "Postpartum."
