Reflecting on a ‘sterling’ career

Sterling Golden is retiring.

Those are four words I never thought I’d say. But, here we are. As of Jan. 1, 2024, Sterling Golden will bring a 15-year career in music, nightlife, events, radio, and podcasting to a close and enter his next phase-focusing on family.

In this interview, Sterling and I talk about the decision to retire made early this year and how he’s processed it in the months that followed. Sterling shares his thoughts on stepping down and how he’s already begun adjusting to his new role.

But the man isn’t quite done yet. He has two interviews dropping this month, as well as a final, 23-hour playlist covering some of his favorite music from 1976 to present. Sterling gives a few previews as to that you can expect, but trust me, you’ll want to check them out and hear the full stories.

Fifteen years is a long time in any industry, and Sterling and I talk about some of his best moments and memorable encounters. We look at business left unfinished and if there’s any chance that Sterling Golden will return to the world of nightlife. He also talks about his last live event and the experience of being on stage for the final time.

Sooz and I talk Boston radio and the two-year anniversary of Oh Hello Boston

Launched in March 2020, the Boston-based online station Oh Hello Boston has achieved a lot in a short time and we are damn glad it's here. Station founder Sooz joins me to talk about how the station got its start amidst the hardest days of the pandemic. We look at her joining forces with long-time Boston music scene personality Michelle Dipoaola. Together, they developed a massive library of music by bands in Boston and around New England.

But Oh Hello Boston is far more than music. The station is home to such shows as Decade Stroll, which plays one song per decade ('80s to '20s) across five-song blocks and New England Roots Reggae, which explores the region's reggae history and its current artists. It also re-broadcasts local staple On The Town With Mikey Dee. We look at the different programs and how Sooz came to work with these amazing people.

April 14, 2019: Nicki Kris/Lady V

Nicki Kris

For this week's episode, singer-songwriter Nicki Kris talks about her new album “Heartbeat” and some of the very personal stories behind her music. She's a Grammy-ballotted artist and she shares her experiences with the award process. She's also had the chance to have her work featured in movies and television.

Lady V
Boston's own Lady V is up next and she's got a lot to talk about, from the origin of her program The V Line and some of the artists she's interviewed. She's a recent entry into social media and talks about how it's helped the program and some ways to avoid the pitfalls.

And for new music, it's another single from Finland-based artist Zuhlke, “Imaginary Me.”
