An intro to the Rhode Island Author Expo and the work of Scott Jablonski

On Dec. 7, the Rhode Island Author Expo returns, and we’re previewing this event by speaking to some of the writers who will be there. 

First up is Scott Jablonski, a writer, musician and teacher who has been encouraging kids to become their best version through his “Stand Out! Stand Out!” series.

In this interview, Scott talks about his work as a teacher and how it’s tied into his writing and music. 

He shares his hopes for the children that read his books and some of the messages he’s imparting through them.

Joan Law Lowell's book provides a platform to learning about the Bible

Author Joan Law Lowell and I sit down to talk about the lessons found in the Bible, but shown through a very unique lens. Her book, Teach the Little Spirits: The Ten Commandments introduces young children to the concepts of the Ten Commandments through the daily adventures of animals down on the Lord’s Little Farm.

 

Joan and I talk about how she went from concept to finished product, and some of the changes that got made along the way, including a fact-check to make sure the book was Bible-friendly. Joan also shares the worldbuilding process and the many characters to be found in the book.

Rhode Author Island Expo, Part 1

Here it is, my interviews from the recent Rhode Author Island Expo!

First up is Karen Gasperini—technically my last pre-show interview the day before—talks about her popular “Arianna's Magic Boots” series which feature's Karen's daughter as the main character.

Following that it's Christine Lajewski, who was last on the show about a year ago. She catches us up on what she has been up to, including some exciting news about her book “Bonebelly.”

Emily Tallman's books include characters with mental illness with the goal that more people will see themselves as worthwhile individuals and no longer just horror movie villains.

The final interview in this episode is with Therese Zink, whose main character Dr. Ann McLannly is a doctor working with international aid missions. It's something that Zink has personal experience with and she shares some of her times working with missions such as these.

The final interview in this episode is Pete O'Donnell, who has transformed a collection of short children's stories into a popular podcast series, “Ill-Advised Stories,” which features himself, his wife, and daughters in the cast.
